The Longest Day of the Year
"The Longest Day of the Year", which references the nickname of the first day of summer, was created during the Summer of 2021. Upon completion of "2002", I was inspired to further reflect on memories from a child's perspective, this time focusing on summer vacation.
The Longest Day of the Year tells the story of both the entire summer and of one day through a child’s eyes while at summer camp. The beginning of the season is represented in “Morning Sunlight” when the day is just starting. Throughout the series, stories are told through the smaller object paintings which represent how the kid’s summer is filled with all kinds of fun. Ending the day, and the summer, is “Evening Wildflowers”, which through the periwinkle blue and violet hues, casts a cooler chill in the air noting that the season is coming to a close.
